Trusted Technology: The da Vinci® Surgical System

At the AdventHealth Digestive Health Institute, our surgeons use the da Vinci® Surgical System to perform robotic-assisted surgeries. It has 3D vision that magnifies the surgical field up to 10 times, giving surgeons a more detailed view of operating sites than they can see with their eyes alone.

The da Vinci’s robotic arms and instruments help surgeons work delicately from angles and positions that can be very difficult to access. More steady than human hands, the arms are controlled by a surgeon at a console in the operating room. The da Vinci® instruments are even more precise than laparoscopic tools, allowing our surgeons to perform complex gynecological, urological, thoracic and general surgical procedures.

Minimally Invasive Procedures

Thanks to minimally invasive procedures like endoscopy, the scalpel is no longer our primary tool in surgical situations.

Your surgeon may also utilize endoscopy to examine, diagnose and treat various areas inside your body using an endoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube fitted with a light and camera. For example:

  • Arthroscopy helps us see inside your joints
  • Bronchoscopy examines your airways and lungs
  • Colonoscopy examines your large intestine and rectum
  • Enteroscopy studies your small intestine
  • Laparoscopy explores your abdomen or pelvis
  • Sigmoidoscopy assesses the lower part of your colon
  • Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (EGD) examines your esophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine, also known as the duodenum
