The Southeastern Surgical Congress (SESC) was recently held at the CAMLS Simulations Center in Tampa, Florida, bringing together some of the greatest minds in surgical fields from around the country. SESC included its esteemed Robotics Course. Sharona Ross, M.D., Alexander Rosemurgy, M.D., and Iswanto Sucandy, M.D. of The Southeastern Center for Digestive Disorders and Pancreatic Cancer, Advanced Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery of Florida Hospital Tampa were all part of the Robotics Course as faculty.

The SESC as a whole is dedicated to improving the skills and abilities of general surgeons and subspecialists through educational presentations and professional networking. The Robotics Course focuses on how the world of surgery is changing more and more each year with the continued utilization of advanced robotics. As the future requires an increasing number of surgeons comfortable with robotic instruments, the importance of attending the Robotics Course and similar seminars also increases.

In the morning of February 10th, 2018, SESC’s postgraduate courses began the day with the Advanced Robotics Skills Course, moderated by both Doctor Ross – who is also a CME Committee member – and Doctor Rosemurgy. Due to the highly technical knowledge discussed in this course, attendees were there through invitation only. Later in the afternoon, both Doctors moderated the Introduction to daVinci Robotic Skills Course, which was open to all attendees. This secondary course reviewed general principles and practices surgeons need to know if they are going to work with daVinci robotics.
