I returned yesterday from the annual meeting 2011 of the AHPBA (Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association) in beautiful Miami Beach. This conference is primarily for surgeons interested in liver, pancreas and gallbladder disease. While in the conference, I heard from the President's Invited speaker, Dr. Frank Lewis, Executive Director, American Board of Surgery about his perspective regarding residents' (doctors in training) education. It was very informative. He also recognized the need to encourage more women to opt for a career in Surgery because they represent over 50% of the medical students in the US. I also attended great presentations regarding benign and malignant disease of the pancreas. All-in-all the conference was a real treat!
