Last weekend I returned from San Antonio Texas where the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) took place. This year’s conference, was once again extremely informative and intellectually stimulating. It is a conference where the most innovative surgeons (those who tend to think and act “out of the box”) come together and share their surgical experiences and innovative ideas. This year I was excited to see an expansion of the Single Incision Laparoscopic approach to various fields in surgery such as thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic operations. At the conference, I was honored to participate as a faculty member and instruct surgical colleagues from around the country how to operate through a single port, single incision at the belly button. I also lectured on "Why Single Port Surgery will Replace Conventional Laparoscopy" and showed multiple surgical videos regarding upper gastrointestinal tract as well as liver, pancreas and gallbladder operations.
SAGES, like many of our national surgical conferences, is a wonderful opportunity for both established surgeons and those who are in training to network and exchange ideas for improvement of patient care and professional growth.
