Nurses Are the Heart of Your Care Team

Every day, our award-winning nurses go above and beyond for our patients at AdventHealth Tampa. Nurses are the foundation of our care teams, and they leave lasting impressions on patients and their loved ones.

Our shared governance, professional development and innovative programs empower our nurses to provide the highest quality care. Inspired by AdventHealth’s mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ, our nurses are committed to providing compassionate, whole-person care and striving to be leaders in nursing excellence.

Our Professional Practice Model

Our professional practice model visually represents the ideas that guide and support how we deliver care at AdventHealth Tampa. It depicts how we practice, collaborate, communicate and develop to provide the highest quality care for those we serve. At every level of nursing, we believe in person-centered care, quality and safety, innovative practice, an inclusive culture, professional development and shared decision-making.

Leading the Way With Research and Innovation

Our nurses are not just reading about new research — they are actively conducting it to improve and ensure we continuously provide the best care possible. We encourage our nurses to be inquisitive and give them the support they need to complete the research and find their voice in health care.

Some examples of our current quality and process improvement projects include:

  • Implementation of a mentorship program – Tampa
  • Increasing RN specialty certification percentage – Tampa
  • Implementation of a clinical scholar program – Tampa
  • Decreasing length of stays (LOS), healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) through early ambulation – 5S
  • Hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) audit tool – 4S
  • Easy access to policies through WOW cards – 3S
  • Patient-specific PICU care bags – PICU

Committed to Creating a Healthy Place to Work

Our Healthy Work Environment Committee underwent a profound transformation in 2021 in response to the enduring challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our vision evolved, focusing on infusing AdventHealth Tampa with renewed joy during these trying times.

Comprised of passionate members from diverse departments, our committee instilled excitement and enthusiasm within our hospital community. Our first event, an Olympic-style competition that engaged all hospital units, symbolized our commitment to unity. Throughout the year, we host engaging activities like hot cocoa bars, donut days and honey-bun extravaganzas, all designed to express gratitude and foster a sense of togetherness.

The influence of this committee extends beyond fun and festive events: we sponsor The DAISY Award and the newly instituted BEE Award, recognizing and celebrating the extraordinary efforts of our colleagues.

Like our beloved mascot, the flamingo, our committee embodies grace, resilience and vibrant energy. Just as the flamingo stands tall amidst challenges, we stand united, fostering a workplace where everyone thrives, spreads their wings and achieves excellence together.

Recognizing Extraordinary Nurses and Team Members

The DAISY Award

The DAISY (diseases attacking the immune system) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The family of J. Patrick Barnes established the DAISY Foundation after he died from complications of an autoimmune disease in 1999. During his hospitalization, they sincerely appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. To thank nurses publicly, they created the DAISY Award, which is given monthly to extraordinary nurses in hospitals throughout America.

Patients, family members or fellow team members may nominate a deserving nurse by completing a nomination form on any of our units.

The BEE Award

Our Healthy Work Environment Committee developed the BEE Award to formally recognize extraordinary team members for being excellent every day (BEE). This award celebrates and honors the exceptional skills and compassion provided by our colleagues every day and acknowledges the strength behind teamwork. All support staff — transport, unit clerks (HUCs), housekeepers, dietary associates, nurse techs, respiratory therapists and others — can be nominated for the BEE Award.

The BEE Award complements our existing DAISY Award program, because just as a daisy relies on a bee, our nurses rely on the outstanding teamwork provided by other health care professionals.

Patients, visitors, physicians and all team members are encouraged to nominate a deserving caregiver (other than a nurse) who supports the nurses and exemplifies our AdventHealth service standards: Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make It Easy, and Own It.
