With an atrium designed with the help of Walt Disney Imagineering and input from patients, families and clinicians, our technologically advanced, flagship facility in downtown Orlando features a child-centered healing environment. On each floor throughout the Walt Disney Pavilion, children will find themed environments – including sights and sounds – inspired by classic, Disney animated movies like The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, BrotherBear and The Jungle Book. These breathtaking vignettes feature only the supporting casts of these beloved films. Why? Because the spotlight is always reserved for our patients.
Disney's Initiative to Support Children's Hospitals and AdventHealth for Children
Disney Initiative delivers comfort and inspiration to families with children facing serious illness by reimagining the patient and family experience in children’s hospitals. Learn how this initiative comes to life at AdventHealth for Children.
You will also see the AdventHealth for Children mascots, Harry and Mary, who were designed as a nod to classic Disney artistry and inspired by the look of Disney’s original “It’s a Small World” attraction. Even the signage used in our Walt Disney Pavilion was inspired by a classic Disney typography. Harry and Mary can be found throughout the hospital, including on every AdventHealth for Children’s team member badge. The heart surrounding our two beloved friends indicates our promise to heal and love children in our communities and across the world.
Innovating Pediatric Health Care
AdventHealth has had an alliance with Walt Disney World since 2002. In 2007, Walt Disney World contributed a $10 million commitment to the building of the Walt Disney Pavilion. Inspired by the donation, AdventHealth made a commitment to reimagine the pediatric health care experience through innovative technology and onsite training for our staff through Disney Institute. Through lessons learned from Disney Institute, caring communication techniques are employed in exciting ways, emphasizing the importance of individualizing the experience for each pediatric patient and their family. AdventHealth staff work together to solve puzzles, role play scenarios and put into practice actions that represent our culture and mission. Staff and physicians throughout the AdventHealth for Children network earn their heart badge through the onboarding experience and commit to caring for each pediatric patient as if they were their own child.
